    Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution sets three qualifications for senators: 1) they must be at least 30 years old, 2) they must have been citizens of the United States for at least the past nine years, and 3) they must be inhabitants of the states they seek to represent at the time of their election.

    Bobby Kennedy and Hillary Clinton are two notable examples of candidates moving to a state to run for Senate because it was not convenient, politically expedient or favorable for them to run in their home states.

        elected officials have had, prior to taking office.  Harry Truman was a haberdasher.   U.S. Grant was a tanner.   He had to smell great.   It's only recently that most pols take office never having worked an honest day in their life.   Shame, really.  It's hard for someone to feel for the people if they never were one of them.
