  •  Ray Price contributed a good deal more than (0+ / 0-)

just one of the greatest voices in country music history.  His Cherokee Cowboys were like Art Tatum's Jazz Messengers, bringing members into the band who then went on the stardom themselves:  Roger Miller, Johnny Bush and Willie Nelson to name a few.

Also of importance was his co-founding of Pamper Music Publishing, which signed songwriters like Miller, Harlan Howard, Hank Cochran and Willie, the latter two of whom later bought out Ray's stake in Pamper.

As the title to his Grammy-winning release with Willie and Merle Haggard notes, he was one of the very "Last of the Breed".  For all of his contribution to country (and pop) music Ray Price has an honored place at the main table in the pantheon of country music artists and his music will endure.  Thanks for your diary on this great artist.
