  •  I wish the Republicans (conservatives) (5+ / 0-)

would stop lying about things that can be easily checked, and I wish somebody would call them on it.  For instance, there is a big discussion going on in economic circles about reforming the tax code, specifically lowering the rate for corporate taxes, because "the U.S. corporate tax rate [35%] is the highest in the developed world."  Sounds ominous.  But very few if any corporations pay that rate, the average rate paid being about 10% (says Warren Buffet, who ought to know).

Germany's average corporate tax rate is 29.8%; Japan's is 38.01%, Italy's is 31.4% and the UK's is in the process of being lowered from 24% to 21% over the next two years (this percentage does not include contributions of up to 25% for National Health Insurance).

Theoretically, Democrats should be calling out this Republican claim.  But no.  I have a feeling it has something to do with campaign contributions and possible employment opportunities for family and friends.

    •  Worldwide, Corporate tax rates have declined (0+ / 0-)

significantly due to its impact on employment.

The rates in the above comment for corporate taxes in other countries is their marginal rate not average.

To see how corporate tax rates have changed since 2006 in countries around the world (and how much higher the US is than other industrial countries) see

      •  The rates are from 2013 reports for each (0+ / 0-)

individual country.  The tax rate I cited for Germany is average; the others are marginal.  None of the numbers include other taxes which corporations may be subject to, e.g., excise, ad valorem or property taxes.

          property taxes, and other taxes.

It is however important for Democrats to understand that when a business decides to hire employees from country X vs country Y by locating there, the tax policies of the country can make a huge difference, especially as the business becomes more capital intensive.

Democrats don't help the working class and middle class by denying the impact of international taxation has on US jobs and wages.
