  •  Here's why we aren't . . . (24+ / 0-)

What's exceptional about America is that we allowed the insurance industry and highly paid medical specialties and pharmaceutical and medical device makers and for-profit hospitals to become so wealthy and politically powerful that it's impossible to displace them. Doesn't help that they can spend unlimited dollars, secretly if they want to, on political campaigns and disinformation.

Don't know what we can do about it, frankly, except try to take baby step after baby step. Note we didn't even get the public option because they saw it as the camel's nose under the tent (which it was). This is a very rough road.

As much as I don't want to agree with Mike Lee, he has a point, in that the Affordable Care Act may prove Impossible to implement. The ACA is a ridiculously complex Rube Goldberg contraption, and maybe it will be such a complete mess that state governments will follow Vermont's lead and go to single payer.

"For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die." --Senator Ted Kennedy
