    are skipping landlines altogether and going directly to mobiles. It's a much simpler infrastructure and much less fragile.

    Next up, in my book: Skipping electrical transmission lines and going directly to on-site solar, wind, or hydro.

    In my ideal sustainable world, we also go "backwards" from large-scale sewage treatment plants to on-site composting of waste.
