We were only allowed to watch a half hour of TV (one show) per night. We were supposed to take turns picking the show. Daddy didn't let us watch "I Love Lucy" or "The Flintstones," because he said he didn't agree with their presentations of marriage. Mommy let us watch them when Daddy was away doing Army stuff =)

The TV was in my parents' room, then there was a black-and-white one with a 3" screen in the kitchen, mounted under a cabinet. My mother listened to the news while cooking or reading the paper.

My paternal grandmother's only TV, which she referred to as "the idiot box," was in her bedroom under a round piece of wood and a heavy brocade tablecloth, disguised as a table. Every night, she would take the tablecloth off, take the wood off, and pull up the antennas. She said the TV was just too ugly. She only watched the news, and would shout, "You damn fools!" quite often :)

She was outraged that I didn't have a Tv to watch the news (but I had subscriptions to two newspapers) so she sent me a check and ordered me to get one. I bought a pink Quasar. Lol. I never watched it.

I still don't watch a lot of TV. DH is addicted to reality shows.

I miss Cactusgal, too! Mom, I miss you!

I actually still have a little 3 inch black and white in a drawer, and it works.  I used it a few years ago when the power was out.   Obviously it's battery operated.

I have to admit I do watch reality t.v.   I watch cooking shows, and HGTV.   Oh, and my guilty pleasure "The First 48".

      Have a good one.

I am a work in progress. Still.
