  •  When I heard her response that (8+ / 0-)

we were all "humor deficient" for having missed the splendid "joke," I gaped in open-mouthed amazement at my screen.

For after all, what was the the joke part? She was "joking" that, what, that she really believed in the whiteness of Santa/Jesus? If so, that's pretty fucked up. "Hey, kids at home" -- because that's who she was addressing -- "let's kid around a bit about white racial supremacy and white privilege. We here on Fox News, broadcasting from central Manhattan, we all know that the race of 'Jesus' and 'Santa' is a thorny tangle of historical issues of representation. We went to the same Ivy League schools as everyone else on the national networks, and we know that to declare the whiteness of either of these largely symbolic figures is fatuous. But we're going to ignore all that and proclaim the unwavering whiteness of Jesus/Santa, just to play a joke on you, the Fox News viewer at home."

Maybe the whole segment was a "joke." You know, a kind of high-level, supremely ironic piece of performance art, in which she and her co-hosts were subversively critiquing their audience of conservative mouth-breathers at home. I could almost buy that, if it weren't for their utterly straight-faced performance of racism and white privilege every day for about thirteen years leading up to this point.

    •  Fox is a joke, a bad one. It is rather like the (0+ / 0-)

collection of all the court fools and jesters into one vast wasteland.

The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and those are ignorance, superstition, and incompetence. [Elbert Hubbard]
