  •  A couple of mine from the past year (5+ / 0-)

An Inquiry into Love and Death by Simone St. James, which I mention as it takes place in 20's Britain. The protagonist is keenly aware of her good fortune being a female student at Oxford, as well as realizing that that past isn't the way the future has to be regarding gender roles.

The Sleeping and the Dead by Jeff Crook. Protagonist is flawed, and she knows it; she's also smart and she knows it. Sequel, please.

Into the Blue by Robert Goddard -- perhaps longer than it should be, but a highly likeable main character, great setting, and an ending that left me quite satisfied (didn't see it coming at all).
