most had gone to bed.  Any owl lovers out there ?

Love it the times at home in bed or camped somewhere in the US or in countries in Africa and hear owls -- especially a  night or pre-dawn when hear a pair of owls calling each other out or home for   hunting.

Believe it or not we sold our place and bought a boat and  lived on it the last three years we taught HS before we retired.   It was a small houseboat moored on a marina on Lake Travis near Austin.  About 12 years ago before Austin surpassed San Francisco in population there still were a couple of coves on the lake which did not have houses around them. We could go anchor for the weekend and camp on the boat. Heaven.  At dusk owls would often surprise us at dusk by showing /revealing  their location by their calls to each other before leaving on the hunt. Before dawn, a redux...

Don't wish to bore you but we REALLY love seeing owls in Africa, and have had awesome fortune seeing them in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia and in Kruger National Park in South Africa on multiple year camping trips there.

Since you like owls ( pardon for the repost) but here are a couple I put in comments in Open Thread for Night Owls recently....  :)    photo IMG_0202.jpg  Giant Eagle Owl, now sadly renamed verreaux's eagle-owl is really big, but the most astounding thing for many observers are the pink eyelids! photo IMG_0356-1.jpg Considered the holy grail by many owl lovers and 'twitchers' --  Pel's Fishing Owl .  This year was the second time we observed one. Last trip two years ago we had a fleeting  glance of one on the ground on a bluff overlooking the Luangwa River.  This time our guide was surprised when we came upon one perched in a tree beside  a just opened that day new driving trail that was calling and did not flee immediately, allowing us to get 30 or 40 shots in before it flew off after hearing another vehicle approach. Sad for them...  South Luangwa NP, Zambia, September, 2013

Wish some in our Dem Party were as wise as these look !
