    Almost nobody makes 30 yrs.  You have to maintain certain fitness standards or you are out.  If you have any injury or health issue you are med boarded.  My husband has been in the Army 24 yrs and I know 3 people whose body, mind, and spirit could manage the challenge and maintain the fitness standards for 30 yrs.  It isn't even a choice for most everyone, the average human being cannot physically do it.

      being passed over for promotion puts you out of the service....LONG before 30 years of service.

      doc2 is rather obviously not well informed about the reality of military service, it appears.
