    with a secure fenced yard is the only way. I worked with a guy who kept his golden retriever in a crate for 8+ hours while he was at work, then complained she was too rambunctious whenever he let her out! Good lord it made me so frustrated and sad. He did love his dog and took her on runs in the evenings but still, I thought it was awful to do that do a dog.

    Doggie friends to play and hang out with are also very important I think for most dogs, especially those who spend long hours without their people around.

      glad we adopted Riley. Sophie pretends she's the boss, and Riley lets her think she is.

      In truth, he could boss her around if he chose to, but he is way too polite and sweet to object to her bossiness.
