  •  I don't want a war (0+ / 0-)

    and I'd be thrilled if Iran actually did decide to give up its nuclear program. However, I'm not counting on that happening.

    Sometimes it seems like a small "war" (that might not even be a war, just a few U.S./Israeli strikes on Iran's nuclear factories) might be necessary in order to prevent a larger, full-scale war between Iran, Israel, and possibly other Middle East countries as well.

    It's kind of like how the U.S. actually saved hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of lives by dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, since it forced the Japanese to surrender quickly, and we didn't have to launch a full-scale invasion of Japan which would have cost millions of lives on both sides.

      I generally support the same thinking you are outlying here but keep in mind there are many who believe Japan was ready to surrender before the nukes were dropped and we only dropped them as a show of strength/warning to The USSR.
