    cassette drive that never worked right. Mostly I used it to play with Basic and to program in my algebra homework (seriously, at the end of the chapter it told you how to do it!).

    Later I got an Atari 65 XE with a floppy drive and a 1200 baud modem. I used to cruise the BBS's with that, download games to the floppy drives,  and play infocom games (the text version of Hitchhiker's Guide FTW).

    Eventually I moved to an IBM 386, and a toshiba laptop (green and amber screen) with enough memory for windows or a word processor but not both (21 meg of hard drive space I think). I ran it with a DOShell.  I paid $1200 for it new.

    Things went upwards in quality and downwards in price from there.
