with that, in regard to the immigration situation, is that very few of them have a Hispanic background in the Republican caucus. How can you expect Republicans to empathize when they don't even share the same skin color or history? The immigration stories, as moving as they are, are not going the right way. They are not relating to the right people. You want to change the conversation, relate them to Republicans. Compare these immigrants to the ones who came to Ellis Island. Get people out there to share the stories of their ancestors who came over on Ellis Island and suffered. On the same ad, put someone telling their current immigration story. That way, they can relate to the situation.

I agree with you that language is a huge part of fighting the battle. Wendy Davis changing the definition of pro-life was an amazing example of how to create positive change by attacking them on their level.

or to those who came over in 1620 to Virginia.

I'm a NYC Jew, so I also thought of Ellis Island as where immigration took place. But in more recent years, since moving to AZ, I've met people who are DAR, who can trace their family histories to the early republic, or here to the early settlers (many of whom, in the southwest, are Mexican) and the wild west.

      There are many Americas.

Being attentive to the needs of others might not be the point of life, but it is the work of life. It can be ... almost impossibly difficult. But it is not something we give. It is what we get in exchange for having to die. - Jonathan Safran Foer
