    AZ uses 26% less residential energy per household than the national average, New York 15% more.  This is directly attributable to space heating (56% in New York, 15% in AZ).

    Apartments are more efficient than SFH, but climate and age of construction are even bigger factors.

      I was thinking only of the City.

      Didn't occur to me (see, the New Yorker cover showing view of the US as seen from Manhattan, LOL) to consider the poor souls Upstate buried in Lake Effect snow, or even the poor souls in the soulless one-acre lot suburbs of Long Island and Westchester.
