  •  I had no idea of this. Unbelievable. Outrageous. (5+ / 0-)

This actually took my breath away. I feel like I am gasping.
I worked in a battered women's shelter in the late 70's and never heard anything about this. I will follow your links.
You think you know the worst and then it turns out to be even worse. No authority to prosecute because the attacker is non-Indian. Incredible.

    •  It's sicking. I recommend reading Louise Erdrich (1+ / 0-)

latest novel  The Round House. It's fiction but it cobbles together various true crimes.

One of them I suspect is based on  Jancita Eagle Deer and former S.D Governor William Janklow.

Lakota Woman By Mary Crow Dog
is another excellent read. (Non Fiction) She died February of this year, sadly.

I'm on Cape Cod visiting right now, which is ground zero for what I call  the beginning  of the end* for the people who were here first, all justified by Christianity.

I live on former Mohawk land so I benefit from the genocide of N.A. It's not right, and I wish I could wave a wand and reverse it. The very least I can do is acknowledge it eh?

( *although the "discovery" of America by murderous monster Columbus could be argued as the beginning of the end)
