have given him far too many accolades for mere words and not nearly enough scutiny over his actions. Francis is truly a marvel of modern PR genius.

    •  Wrong (0+ / 0-)

He paid his own hotel bill, fired bishops who were involved in financial shinanegans and culture warriors, sneaks out at night to homeless shelters.

He is not progressive with respect to gays and woman priests, but he is at least tolerant (Who am I to judge?) which is a big, big step beyond his predicessors.

a PR campaign?   Hint: meaningless appearances to mask the lack of true change.

two of the culture warrior bishops from the committee to recommend new bishops, including the reprehensible Burke from St. Louis, the guy who threatened to excommunicate anyone who voted for Kerry. That's change. Because the future constitution of bishops determine the long term direction of the Church.

Don't expect those geriatric bigots who have run the Church in the past to change quickly. Only through attrition will there be real change, but he's started a process.

He started a process that has everyone jumping up and down, except maybe the nuns that he scolded for acting like a bunch of old maids.  However, for women, it's so heartwarming to see these corporate musical chair activities going on because the next group of new faces at the Vatican are SURELY going to OK birth control!

            •  Actually possible (0+ / 0-)

About the time of Vatican II a commission of bishops said the pill was OK, but that was drowned by the old guard. There is actually no "ex cathreda" proclamation that condemns birth control. It's all interpretation by the bishops.

The most dangerous guy in this process is Dolan, the "would be" pope.

that says "I'm with the nuns."

GIve it time. This is a 2000 year old institution. It will take a lot to change it.

Don't Dis the folks who celebrate any progress whatsoever.
