    Military judges were changed by the Military Justice Act of 1968 so that, for example in Army:

    The Army Trial Judiciary currently consists of 27 active Army military trial judges and 23 Army Reserve military trial judges, all field grade officers and members of the Judge Advocate General's Corps. All military judges are attorneys who have graduated from an accredited law school and are admitted to practice law in one or more states.
    That does not alter the fact that the line command still has the authority to squelch investigations and even throw out that court's verdict as recent cases have shown and Congress has noted. That remains unsatisfactory.
