  •  They have plenty of songs (10+ / 0-)

And it is easy to make more for them.

O little town, Fort Lee NJ,
How we still hear the lie.
All through thy deep nightmarish sleep
The cars just can't go by.
    The Bridgegate Carol[TM][OMG]

To the tune of Jungle Bulls:

    Oh, I am unemployed.
    My bills I cannot pay,
But Rat Pol says, "No, no."
    My benefits he'll slay.

He says they'll do me harm,
    A mooch will I become
    'twill do me a disservice
    If I don't become a bum.

Oh, cut them off, cut them off,
    Cut them at the knees.
Oh, what fun it is to cut
    So benefits will cease,
Oh, cut them off, cut them off,
    Greetings of the Seas—
Oh, no, oh, no, oh War on
War on Christmas, please, oh, please.

    And an older one.
Oh, poll tax, how I love ya
    How I love ya,
    My dear old poll tax…
Tomcat Lehrer, I Wanna Go Back to Dixie

Though not all with "O". Tomcat Lehrer had a lot of them.

On Christmas Day you can't get sore,
Your fellow man you must adore,
There's time to rob him all the more
The other three hundred and six-a-ty-four.

But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week,
    It's National Everyone-smile-at-one-another-hood Week.
    Be nice to people who
    Are inferior to you.
It's only for a week, so have no fear.
Be grateful that it doesn't last all year!

And then The Kingfisherston Trio, Merry Minuet ("And I don't like anybody very much!"); The Kingfisherston Trio, The John Birch Society ("There's no one left but we and thee, and we're not sure of thee."); Petrel Seeger, Waist Deep in the Big Muddy ("and the big fool said to push on!") and so many, many more.

Did a lot of these. Unfortunately, I have yet to find them on Youtube.

Jingle coins, jingle coins, jingle in the till
Oh what fun it is to sell and call it all good will
Jingle coins, jingle coins, jingle in the bank
Christ came to save the winter slump; for that we can give thanks

      The trinkets in our line
      Are mostly from Hong Kong
      Where there's no overtime
And no one thinks it's wrong
      (No no no no)
      The labor there is plentiful
      And practically free
      Producing little ornaments
      To dangle from your tree!

      Oh, jingle coins . . .

And God said, "Let there be light"; and with a Big Bang, there was light. And God said "Ow! Ow My eyes!" and in a flash God separated light from darkness. "Whew! Now that's better. Now where was I. Oh yea . . ."

but Melinda posted on the Democratic Underground back in May.

        Hi Ken, Blue, and everyone:
While googling for a copy of the old FAC video (I stupidly gave my last one away last year, thinking I had more..) up came Democratic Underground and this thread. Thanks for thinking of the old days!

I'm Melinda - the one who wrote and performed "Come Buy My Windows" along with a bunch of the other songs. After the FAC retired in 1996, I started a new political comedy music theatre troupe, BroadArts Theatre. We've been around now for 12 years, doing stage shows and concerts, still progressive (lots more than just Christmas parodies now), still radical, still getting into trouble. BroadArts has had a number of shows, including WonderBroads, about progressive women activists from Mother Jones and Susan B. Anthony to Dolores Huerta and bell hooks- The Babes and Broads who Broke the Rules! WonderBroads toured for 8 years on an off, and won the Oregon Book Award for Best Drama in 2000.

I'm just finishing my Master's on progressive comedy, (graduate June 15th!) then I hope on to teach while revitalizing BroadArts. Yes, my personal FB is Melinda E. Pittman (with the initial) and the BroadArts FB is Melinda Pittman- friend me!

I do have some of the old FAC CDs, cassette tapes (just what you need for your high technology), some of the Summer Angels Some Are Not! cassettes and CD, and then a bunch of newer BroadArts Theatre CDs.

Thanks again for thinking of us aging radicals- Friend me! If you're interested in performances and or appearances, we will start that up again in the fall of this year. Our website is out of date, but that's a summertime project.

        Keep on keeping on-
        Melinda Pittman
