  •  oh, dear! ouch!! (4+ / 0-)

I am sorry about the fall.  I hope nothing is really broken.

We had our first Christmas family party, this afternoon, and the roads were salted enough that everyone made it safely.

All three of my kids and their wives and all 8 grandbabies, my sister and niece, hubby's nice brother and wife and my daughter's mother-in-law who lost her husband just two months ago.  It was a gathering up of three shattered families all at once.  There were 21 of us and we had a fun time.

My sister made two cute pinatas for the kids to break open and filled them with little toys and candy.

The loser part is that two families are supposed to gather again tomorrow afternoon to give the little ones gifts and we are getting freezing rain again.  The trees were ice covered earlier when we went to the party and more so when we came home.

The temp. is right on a line between deep icing and just making it without.  Our lights went out twice and came back on, but...

Hubby has a small generator that would run the pump and we have a fireplace.  But I am hoping...

It is just too hard if my daughter who is 30 minutes away for the night can't come with the four  kids tomorrow because they live three hours away.  If only the main roads are open we wouldn't see them until Jan 11th.  Fingers crossed.

The kids gave hubby and me a huge photo of all of them...six adults and eight grandbabies and they all look beautiful.  I guess it took fifteen tries to get a picture where they all looked OK...but they managed.  I am supremely tickled to have it.  :) :)

Best wishes to all here for dry roads and keeping your lights!!!

Sounds like a good gathering for the Christmas party, albeit with the one sad absence.

We'll see how my wrist fares over the next week or so.  If it still hurts after Xmas, then I'll get it X-rayed at the emergency room.  I'll be sure to bring a book to read if it comes to that.

    •  Sounds great, cfk (2+ / 0-)

...and sorry about the freezing rain. I hope it's just warm enough to let the party happen as planned.

We're having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave....

Seriously, it was at least in the 50s today and tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 60s and we have a chance to break the current record for the date. Of course, Monday will cool down again, but for now it feels great. The paper said something about a Bermuda high or something -- I don't know what it is, but it's why we're enjoying the warmer temps, after below-average temps all December long.

.....so presumably it's your turn, with whatever weather front we had traveling to you.

        •  Oh yeah. (2+ / 0-)

Yeah, when I read midwesterners (esp. Chicagoans) discussing the cold this a.m. before work, I was kind of like, "That's headed my way."

But the storm that was stopped by the mountains of western PA this a.m. should be moving through as rain and for that, I am grateful. We've already had a typical winter's worth of snow, in about a week and a half. We're over it already. (Had that conversation with about four different customers today, lol, and we're all agreed: enough already!)
