  •  Life will be found on Mars (not) (0+ / 0-)

Before the Curiosity mission, there had been reports of methane on Mars, based on analysis of spectral measurements made from orbiters and from Earth. Methane, had it been present, might have been a sign of ongoing biological activity.

The landing site for Curiosity was chosen partly because it was considered a methane hotspot and an ideal location for detecting methane. But Curiosity has detected no atmospheric methane.

This rather important negative result has been downplayed in the media.
