  •  I had a traumatic accident, yet, astonishingly (6+ / 0-)

    LITTLE suffering.

My first surgery, a six hour affair to completely reconstruct the socket in my right hip, happened three days after the accident. Two days later, my shoulder blade was surgically repaired. That was about four hours. A week after the second surgery I had no pain in EITHER surgical site, a truth that has sustained ever since. Whenever I see any of the health care professionals who worked on my case, they just shake their heads, They tell me, NO ONE heals from injuries like those the way you did.

So I was very fortunate. It was a break, an interruption in my life. If I converted that great suffering was involved, then I misstated it quite badly.

Like you, I do not like the idea that suffering is ennobling. I don't believe it is.

In any case, I did not think I described my 'adventure' as involving great suffering. It didn't.
