Renaming things is a frequent conservative propaganda technique. I don't know that they ever matched their success at making "liberal" a dirty word. That's a pretty high bar. Hard to do worse than trying to rename suicide bombers as "homicide bombers". Didn't take, and who knows why they thought that would help. "Spending limit" was potentially pernicious because it played into the common ignorance of what the debt ceiling is, and it sounds like a common sense good idea as long as no thought is put into it. We may have dodged a bullet that this one failed.

fox can't do it by themselves.  They think they can, but they can't. That's pretty much why "homicide bombers" failed. No one else would refer to them as such.  Even with the help of their political wing, the republican party, fox cannot do it by themselves.

I think the real reason it failed is that "homicide bombers" makes more sense when it's applied to combatants who drop bombs from a distance with little to no risk to themselves. Too many people noticed that a phrase like "homicide bombers" - when used in the most sensible and logical manner - is really a direct slam on the military.

Much better to use "suicide bombers" and "bombers" instead of dragging "homicide" into the phrases.

And we got the "death tax".

But the one that gets to me the most is "entitlements".  Those are our savings accounts.  But it makes us all sound like we feel "entitled".

Of course the great wastage is in the verbs and adjectives, but there are hundreds of nouns that can be got rid of as well. It isn't only the synonyms; there are also the antonyms. After all, what justification is there for a word, which is simply the opposite of some other word? A word contains its opposite in itself. Take ‘good,’ for instance. If you have a word like ‘good,’ what need is there for a word like ‘bad’? ‘Ungood’ will do just as well – better, because it's an exact opposite, which the other is not. Or again, if you want a stronger version of ‘good,’ what sense is there in having a whole string of vague useless words like ‘excellent’ and ‘splendid’ and all the rest of them? ‘Plusgood’ covers the meaning or ‘doubleplusgood’ if you want something stronger still. Of course we use those forms already, but in the final version of Newspeak there'll be nothing else. In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness will be covered by only six words – in reality, only one word. Don't you see the beauty of that, Winston? It was B.B.'s idea originally, of course," he added as an afterthought.
