    Yesterday afternoon, my wife and I took big trays of cookies to the ER and the transplant unit where my wife had a kidney transplant last spring, and where she went back to the ER about a month later with a small pulmonary embolism. (She's doing great now.)

    I hadn't realized that so many people had the same idea about bringing cookies and other treats to the hospital, but I'm glad they're so welcome. Maybe next year, we'll take them to the local fire and police stations, since those folks also have to work, and perhaps not as many people think about them

    Bin Laden is dead. GM and Chrysler are alive.
