  •  I've often found it's an interesting dynamic (9+ / 0-)

between what parents things about kids' behavior versus what nearby strangers think. I just think it's interesting how people in those roles sometimes look at things with a different perspective!

And that in itself is interesting. Why should I care? I was frankly frightened watching these kids run around the back of the boat. So was the husband. One of them I wanna say about 5 tripped over the DH's foot. He was like - you shouldn't be running around like that!

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.

      •  Oh here's another story for you (15+ / 0-)

When I used to live in San Francisco I took the MUNI bus home sometimes.

One night it was pouring rain and I was on the bus. We pulled over to a stop and there was a guy there waiting for the bus holding a baby. The baby's head was uncovered and the guy was just standing there with it letting its head get completely soaked!

As he was coming onto the bus, some of were just kind of staring, speechless. But the bus driver was not speechless. She just lit right into him. "What are you doing? Get that baby's head covered! You can't let a baby get wet in the rain like that!"

        Pretty amazing.

The other story is about the time I saw a mother in a McDonald's restaurant, so focused on her cell phone conversation that she was not paying attention to her young child who was trying to take care of the almost infant she also wasn't paying attention to.  The girl couldn't control the younger boy and he fell onto the floor and started wailing loudly.  The mother kept talking off the phone. Without thinking I yelled at her, "Get off the phone and pick up your baby!"  She looked at me stunned. She said "I'm sorry" and she went to pick up the baby!

    •  But if the kids sat down.... (0+ / 0-)

In the same paranoid hypothetical universe where the deranged baddie throws them off the boat, a large seabird could fly low and peck their eyes out!  Or a malevolent terrorist may have placed a biological or radiological  package under THOSE VERY SEATS!

Or maybe they could just run around, let off some steam, and be a little quieter on the way home so their exhausted parents could meditate on truly spectacular child rearing skills.

Of course it hurts! You're being screwed by an Elephant!
