    would counsel forgiveness, even for the likes of Langone.

      Unrepentant sinners aren't forgiven, even in Catholicism. With whatever actual faith he's got in Christianity he's going to hell. In fact the pope's job is to tell christians that they're going to hell if they don't repent. Especially from sins like the aggressive worship of mammon.

      This pope might not. He is a fantastic PR leader for the church.

          I'm atheist, too. I'm just describing the Catholic pope and some Catholics.

          I like this pope better than the last one, who was abominable. But while I like his words, his actions have been so much fainter that he sounds like a faker.

          Popes are so powerful that they're everyone's pope. We're stuck with them and what they do, and its effect on so many others. I'd like this one if his actions measured up to his words. Specifically in turning over child molesters and their hiders documented in his many files to their local police, and liquidating church property to pay for more benefits to the poor along the lines that he's preaching to other capitalists.
