    does this too with redwood forest. They've been able to buy land in he vicinity of Big Basin Redwoods State Park and other parks in the Santa Cruz Mountains (between the ocean and the Bay, all the way to Santa Cruz) in an effort to preserve contiguous redwood forest habitat.

    One way they raise funds is donations for dedicated trees that are scattered about. A dear friend who passed in 03 has a dedicated redwood, with a small plaque with his name, dates, and a quote. I have not seen it yet (only pictures) as the last time I was there, I neglected to get directions ahead of time, and nobody was available that day to show me where it was. They're not all in one spot. though they do also have some designated memorial groves.
