  •  Beautiful soup! Is that from Alice in W? (7+ / 0-)

I guess I'll have to look it up.
I made soup today too, a delicious vegetarian onion soup from one of my favorite cookbooks ever, the Political Palate. It was the product of a trio of women, the Bloodroot Collective, who operated a restaurant in Bridgeport CT for a number of years. They emphasized seasonal and local foods, way ahead of their time, and they have a very strong feminist sensibility. My DH just got me their first two volumes for Christmas, and I feel a sense of balance in my culinary library again.
Next time I make it, I'll take a photo. It looks great in the bowl. Tastes better :)

Mmm, onion soup! Yes, you must write about it! That sounds like a wonderful book. I should not buy more books, but it is so difficult when people speak of such obviously good ones...

      •  Thank you for finding it for me. (4+ / 0-)

I was pretty confident it was in Alice, though I wouldn't have settled on the Mock Turtle (unless I thought about it reaaally hard).
Why, I guess I must then! It would be a pleasure, actually. Now, wouldn't that be another great addition to the R & BL series? ;) Cookbook reviews and reminiscences, that is....

I'm sure that a lot of people have a cookbook they have a special attachment to. People love books of all kinds, plus food is so emotionally loaded. I bet it would be a very popular "sub-series". I would certainly enjoy it!

Wait, I have to tell you this because it's relevant and it still cracks me up. Years ago, out where I used to live in New Jersey, a place opened up in a storefront on NJ route 10, apparently the kind of shop a lot of us vaguely imagine when we dream of ourselves in retail, selling both books and tasty things to eat. The sign outside, unfortunately, said:

          USED BOOKS AND COOKIES
