    Insurers are being flooded with payments by mail. All of them have to be handled manually. A portion of them do not have complete information such as the Federal Marketplace ID, causing even more manual handling and research.

    Pay online if at all possible.

      The percentage paying by mail has to be small.

        but I know an insurer that has received thousands of payments by mail - checks, money orders, cashiers checks, and even cash - that are having to be opened, verified, and entered one by one. It's a very labor intensive process that delays completion of enrollment by a lot more than doing it all electronically.

        Combine that with having the enrollment deadline hit during the holiday season when workers tend to take vacation time, and it's definitely a delay in the process.
