on average, have higher health care costs than men.  Now, I realize the purpose of insurance is to distribute risk, and anyone with half a brain would consider the comment about breats, uteri, ovaries versus prostates to be absurd on its face.  But underneath all the Fox News BS, it is not so strange for a conservative to think that women should pay more for health insurance, at least in a certain age bracket.  Again, I don't agree with it.  But it is not as bizarre and hateful as insinuating that Obama wants to kill honkeys.

    •  As I said, actuarial policy v. policy (4+ / 0-)

"Women should pay more" is not a valid statement, for a conservative or a liberal or anyone else who is an American citizen, because, and I think we need to be really clear on this, it is a statement of policy.

We can't allow business interests to be the same thing, or the primary voice in, policy. Sure, a business wants to think of profits, and insurance companies have charged women more based on risk. That's are decisions for profits, not decisions about policy.

We have to fight like mad against this assumption that it's even appropriate to ask, "What's most profitable?" in a policy discussion. The Fox News goobers were not only asking it, they were suggesting that national policy should be subservient to what will be most profitable.

      •  Excellent and well-said point. Even I understand! (0+ / 0-)

This is a tad more sophisicated strateg you are talking about here. This is the kind of communication that should be coming from POTUS, and Congress as part of a Democratic dialogue, right now.
