For awhile now, I've felt that we'd make more progress by insisting on rigorous and aggressive enforcement of our existing laws related to guns rather than pushing for more gun control. My thoughts evolved that way after reading so many GunFail diaries where it becomes clear that too many cases of reckless and negligent acts which should be criminal were dismissed as "tragedies", "mishaps" and "unfortunate accidents".

In this case however, how are we supposed to ensure things like this don't happen? It seems virtually impossible in the context of our current legal environment. As you said, he could buy anything he wants at will at a gun show or flea market without any background checks. It would be interesting to know if he's even in the NICS database!! It wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't. And, because there is no registration requirement, impossible to know how he obtained the weapons and determine if they were knowingly illegally sold to him.

Also, not clear from the story if the guns were seized, or if he was even charged at this point for illegal possession of firearms.

being outdated because local jurisdictions don't reports as they should.  Perhaps some penalties if the people in FL didn't put this guy in the database?  Might go a ways to convincing the yahoo sheriffs who don't want to enforce laws it is in their interest to do so too.

Listening to the NRA on school safety is like listening to the tobacco companies on cigarette safety. (h/t nightsweat)

      impossible to stop.

Now they have the 2nd (safety net for sloppy) Amendment, and can't be infringed to actually treat their gun like a gun and not a video game controller.
