... the last time I had the radio on.  Probably a couple of years ago when we had tornado warnings out and there was a power outage.

I used to enjoy A Prairie Home Companion and some neat music on MPR when I was driving to/from work when I couldn't get a moldie oldies station (with too many ads), but since retirement I never have it on.  Occasionally I remember to go to Pandora and listen to several channels there, but it has to be instrumental music because as I'm doing genealogy research if I listen to lyrics at the same time I forget what I was searching for or enter lyrics in the search engine (I particularly like Pandora's Celtic selections, and I also have a lot of cheerful jigs and reels marked in YouTube).

We had no TV when I was young (got that in the late '50s when I was entering my teen years, so I remember American Bandstand), and we only had the radio on in the morning when the weather was bad and Mom was listening for school closings, not in the evening.  My "entertainment" was always reading (still is, but now it's more for genealogy research purposes most of the time).  Ergo, I can deal with quiet, contemplative silence quite nicely and I don't miss the noise of TV (which I turned off permanently a few months ago), radio, or even the records and CDs I have.  I watch less than ten hours per week on Hulu of TV shows I follow (probably not much more than that for the whole month of December when all the Xmas specials were on Hulu and few new episodes of any shows I watch, and only one hour per week of TV during the summer).

After watching/listening to the few excerpts of idiots and morons (like McLimpDick or any of the others) here on DK, I really don't know how anyone can stand to tune in to any of them or put up with the moronic ads.  Nice, quiet, contemplative and tranquil silence is FAR more preferable.

:-)  Like you, I know where OFF is on any of the media machines I have - or Mute when it comes to the laptop.  :-)

I'm sick of attempts to steer this nation from principles evolved in The Age of Reason to hallucinations derived from illiterate herdsmen. ~ Crashing Vor
