  •  Nice piece. It's hard for me to believe we... (6+ / 0-)

...haven't moved on over this. I wrote my first piece on the battle over creationism in schools in January 1969, 45 years ago. And yet the fight goes on.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.

    •  creationism was my first real political fight (7+ / 0-)

Way back in 1982, right after the Arkansas court ruling, one of the local school districts in eastern Pennsylvania where I lived tried to introduce an "equal time" policy. I was one of the original group of people who helped form a local coalition of students, teachers, businessmen, and clergymen to fight against it. We not only killed the policy, but every school board member who supported it was gone after the next two elections.

I was 20-21 at the time, and it taught me a lot about how to effectively organize actual people for a concrete real-world goal.

In the end, reality always wins.
