Next is raising a family and the burden of a mortgage.

    Then getting kids through college.

Beware HR could be behind any door.   You can be frugal and save all your life, but it can be gone in a heartbeat.  A corporation may steal your pension.  You could be sick and left hanging

Wait 20 years, then you can worry about getting put on waivers, being too qualified, (whispered in quiet rooms ->) too old or just expendable.  You may even need pills to get a hard on!

I am not trying to be harsh or a buzz kill.  That is the reality for most of us.  Try to figure out what is important and set realistic goals.  Do you want a life partner?  Spend time raising a family?  Create art?  Take a really long walk?

Don't let ideals and other people's expectations take you where you are not happy.  Do you want to do mortgage closings, DUI defense, wills, patent troll suits or contracts?  Is lawyer the answer?  Butchers and bakers are always in demand.

For most of us, our profession is a means to an end.  A way to pay the bills.  Your work can own you, if you let it.

I am guessing, but you seem in a hurry to arrive at the end.  The end is a hard stop, so take time to smell the roses.  It could be a good time for that very long walk, in Nepal, Africa, China, ...

This land is your land and this land is my land, sure, but the world is run by those that never listen to music anyway. ~ Bob Dylan ~
