    ...though it's full of late-1970s period anachronisms and based loosely on the Abacam scandal of that time, the hilariously escalating complexity of the various cons, schemes and interpersonal interactions is timeless.  Some of the finest ensemble acting you 'll ever see - Christian Bale is spot-on perfect as Irving, a successful small-time part legitimate business owner, part sleazy con man running illegitimate schemes, Amy Adams is spot-on perfect as his smoking-hot, amorally savvy mistress, and Jennifer Lawrence steals several scenes as Bale's uninhibited, ditzy, uncontrollable bombshell wife, and Bradley Cooper is perfect as the equally sleazy, arrogant, ruthlessly ambitious FBI agent who's quite cleverly cunning, but not nearly as much as he thinks he is among a universe of skilled con artists.
