    it's because the water spray is set to go off at motion.

    I would set it on at night, when the raccoons were active.  Kept my koi alive for years until I redesigned the pond.

    It's battery operated.  you just need a hose link.

    When I had a heron that discovered the pond, I set it up again.  That was when I had to turn it on during the day for a few weeks.  Didn't like to set it on during the day because of the wild birds that would visit the pond to bathe and drink.
