    teams do not want something non-football to overshadow what they are doing on the field.  

    Those of us in New Orleans cringed when, for YEARS after 2005, every single national broadcast of a Saints game contained a "Katrina" mentioned.  Every. Single. One.  Still happens most of the time.  We are on the lookout for it.  Then, it was overcome by "Bountygate."  That's the reference on every single nationally broadcast game.  Lots of times now, you'l hear BOTH the "K" word and the "B" word.  Listen tonight.  You'll hear one -- or both.  

    We. Hate. It.  

    Football fans want the discussion to be about what happens on the field.
