    thanks for writing that diary and pointing out that the koch brothers fingerprints are all over this tragedy.  west virginia is one of those places where wealthy interests (king coal and his extractive industry friends chief among them) dominate politics at all levels and frustrate any efforts at preserving the environment and the health and safety of the people.  it's also the sort of place where you can poison a third of a million people's water and maybe get away with it if you are a well connected wealthy industrial interest.

      Big coal even managed to subvert the UMW.  My paternal grandfather was crushed in a mine cave in.  He survived, but was a cripple from his forties until death.  The hoops he had to jump through for healthcare and black lung benefits were mind boggling.
