Who would naturally fit the sensibilities and principles of the Democratic Party, but for what they perceive as our party's  hostility toward religion. Pope Francis's message is very much in line with democratic principles.
Environmentalism, care for the poor, treating all our brothers and sisters with dignity: these are all democratic principles, and they certainly underpin my Christianity.

I do not recall telling atheists or agnostics to STFU. Nor do I think they should. I have never criticized agnostics or atheists at Daily Kos or anywhere else, nor would I condone such criticism. i have tried to say consistently that I would like us all to accept each other as we identify ourselves.

    Please proceed, lemmings.

gtfo. And I realize you did not post that exactly. But it is the meaning of what you did say.

If you want a blog that is comfortably intolerant of religion, by all means go find one!

is to continue being "comfortably intolerant of religion" right here, and alienating people of faith who would like to find common cause with you on any number of Democratic principles.

By all means, raise the question to the moderators as to whether or not non-religious Kossacks should feel free to criticize religious belief.  I wasn't trying to assert any authority (which I most certainly don't possess, anyway) to tell you you cannot do so here. I was only trying to state that, in my experience here (which dates from 2002), I do not remember Kos or any other leaders/moderators here declaring their support for such an approach.  Indeed, for many years Street Prophets has been a Daily Kos group.

I do know that such criticism makes me feel like a second-class member of this community -- as if others are saying, Well, yes, you can hang around and agree with us about Democratic issues, but from time to time we're going to tell you that we think a big part of your identity is stupid and ridiculous.

I am now going to give this issue a rest.  Good night.

        Please proceed, lemmings.
