    to match dollar for dollar against a 3-term incumbent who has been building a war chest for four years, and has plenty of PAC money to show for it.

    But nobody expects a challenger (let alone one who isn't currently in Congress) to show numbers like these, either.

    For context, Tom Allen, Collins' 2008 opponent, took in a little less than $400,000 during his first fundraising quarter for that bid. He was a sitting Congressman at the time.

    Maine is a cheap media state, where campaigns typically don't go as high as in other states. For instance, Angus King's 2012 campaign raised and spent a little under $3 million total.

    Of course the challenge of going against the Collins war chest is daunting. The Bellows campaign will need to be creative. I'm confident they will be.
