The U.S. had a great deal of support from around the world and an opportunity to label, what was then a small group of terrorists as criminals and doing so relegate their crime to a singular infamy. But the build up to the so called "war on terror" had begun quite some time earlier with the right wing of our country clamoring for a military presence in the mid east. And it appears that 911 became the catalyst for that move. What supports this view?  The fact that Iraq had nothing to do with 911 and there is substantial proof of the lies about "weapons of mass destruction" and the threat that Saddam Hussein posed to the world.  The cost of that decision? A strengthen terrorist presence in the world and thousand upon thousands of dead and wounded and the current insight that we are being robbed of our rights to privacy by our own country.
It was not Bin Laden, that took us to war with Iraq and ruined our standing and credibility in the world. It was a cabal of Neoconservatives with an agenda with Dick Cheney and George Bush at the helm.

one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must do it because Conscience tells him it is right. MLK
