and dipping into astrology, a subject in which I have no interest but am probably going to have because the author will make me.  The book is The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton.  It won the 2013 Man Booker Prize and I can see why.  It reminds me of Jane Campion's The Piano.

On my Kindle, I just finished a really good novel by a new-to-me-author, A. D. Miller.  The book is Snowdrops about a London lawyer working in Moscow who meets two sisters in the Moscow subway and the adventure begins.  Themes -- deception, corruption, and betrayal.

Corruption is the same theme in the other book I'm reading, No Longer at Ease by Chinua Achebe.  Corruption and the clash between English and Nigerian mores in post-colonial time.

Next up on Kindle? -- well I'm trying to decide that.  Scaramouche?
