  •  He had Wes Clark for one... (3+ / 0-)

You'd think the former NATO commander and Vietnam vet (shot four times and lived to talk about it) would have enough cred to handle the job.  Obama hired Hilary, why not another former opponent for Defense?

But no, gotta go with a guy contaminated by Republican deception and failure, and then keep him in the job forever.

I shrug, because I've long since given up trying to read the president's mind.

that there was a waiting period on how long you had to be out of the military before you joined the Cabinet?  Apparently his statute of limitations hadn't run out yet.

Or am I thinking of someone else?

You may think that. I couldn't possibly comment.-- Francis Urqhart

I remember something about his name being put up for various jobs in the administration and being passed over for them.

Wikipedia doesn't seem to be any help, though it did have this:

"I would like to see mankind get off this planet. I'd like to know what's out there beyond the solar system." Clark thought such a vision could probably require a lifetime of research and development in various fields of science and technology. Then at the end of his remarks, Clark dropped a bombshell when he said "I still believe in E = mc². But I can't believe that in all of human history we'll never ever be able to go beyond the speed of light to reach where we want to go. I happen to believe that mankind can do it. I've argued with physicists about it. I've argued with best friends about it. I just have to believe it. It's my only faith-based initiative."
He certainly locked up the science fiction/Star Wars/Star Trek political base with that one.  I like the guy even more now.

Clark didn't get a nod because he had been a candidate himself.  :/
