    So, I've only ever lived in NJ, but I've lived in quite a few different spots in the state ranging from south to central to north.  

    Where I grew up, pop density is 1,717/sq mi.
    Most dense was New Brunswick, at 10,556/sq mi; runner up was Dumont, with 8,814/sq mi.  Oddly enough neither of those felt crowded, although in New Brunswick we were on a quiet street not too far from the turnpike and not in the heart of downtown, so I expect that makes a difference.

    In general, I can't stand crowds, especially if they're coupled with tall buildings.  It's part of why, as close as it is, I try to avoid NYC as much as possible.  Open space, not a lot of people, that's the life for me.
