    I mean there are employment challenges, but getting hundreds of millions of cars off the road? Sign me up.

      There will be a small reduction in cars on the road, likely due to people sharing rides in self-driving subscription cars.

      There will be a large reduction in cars sitting idle, parked.

      The average self-driving car will have very little down time. Like the current police car or taxi.

          Cars would be specifically built to be simple and durable to hold up to this kind of usage (like buses and taxi cabs) rather then trendy and stylish (like consumer vehicles that people do not expect to own for more than a few years).

            There will still be "luxury" cars that cost more to use. Nobody owns jetliners, but plenty still fly first class.
