but this scandal will not get its proper treatment unless and until the national media and Democratic party and DoJ get fully involved. Christie is still the GOP's golden boy and a day or two of bad national press and a preliminary pro forma DoJ investigation will not necessarily take him down. This has to be pursued relentlessly for as long as it takes. We all know that the national media can do that, a la Clinton, Spitzer and Weiner. But since it doesn't involve a semen-stained blue dress or a Dem caught up in a sexual scandal, I'm not getting my hopes up unless this drags on for a while in the spotlight.

The rules are different when it comes to Repubs, even the worst of them. They just are. The media fears the GOP and despises Dems. They just do.

That said, this is a juicy scandal and Christie has made himself a very big target with his chest-beating (and steak-eating...).

the lanes closed that had the authority to do that?

the most basic question is still unanswered....WHO ordered it? No one? Kelly and Wildstein acting alone? SOMEONE who had the power to do this, gave the order. WHO?

And where is the usual paperwork of requests and traffic study forms and multiple sign-offs that large organizations always require?

And where is the directive to be sure this was a surprise, a secret that the mayor and police were not allowed to know about, even days into it they were ignored.

Can you imagine if this had been a Democratic governor?  Fox news and Darryl Issa would be having orgasms.

But the image it creates makes me feel the need to take a shower with lots of hot water and soap, and a scrub brush, to get it off me.

got an above the fold headline in the Washington Post (competing with the much more important story the the Washington Racists football team has a new coach). Even the LA Times chimed in about it.  It IS getting national attention. As to individual Dems not from NY or NJ getting involved, they should wait until a bit more incriminating evidence shows up. There is supposed to be a document dump today. Let's see what happens then.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia".

to help local Dems go after these people, by providing them legal and political advice and resources, while letting them continue to be the public face of the party in this matter. It will allow national Dems to appear to be above the fray while allowing the investigation process to proceed properly, and maybe even raising the national prominence of a few NJ Dems, like Buono and the Fort Lee mayor, and whoever conducts these hearings. Also, the NJ US Attorney.

As for the media, there's no way to tell where they'll be on this story in a week or two. This is going to take months to unfold, and I'm not convinced that they have the interest or desire to pursue it that long, especially against a media darling and political thug like Christie. We'll just have to wait and see.
