  •  They're not missing the point (63+ / 0-)

    they are STRESSING the point.

The point is that this is a partisan elections-focused site, and this story is the most important 2016-related story in forever. It will get a lot of attention, and it will DESERVEDLY get a lot of attention.

And those who don't like it have two options: wait things out until this story dies down, or ply their wares on another site not as focused on electoral matters.

But if you don't think that the political travails of the GOP's leading light for 2016 matter, then really, you are in the wrong place.

    •  Of course it matters (1+ / 0-)

Where did I say it didn't matter?

And of course it deserves attention.

But you think it deserves all the attention?

And he was never going to win the nomination in 2016. He could never make it past the base.

If knowledge is power and power corrupts, does that mean that knowledge corrupts?

      •  Mitt wasn't a "base" kind of guy either (21+ / 0-)

And this time aroudn the "traditional" GOP are actively trying to wrest control from "the base".

        •  The GOP "base" is only allowed an illusion of (9+ / 0-)

power at the national level anyway.  They create havoc during the primaries, but they don't get what they want in the end.  When was the last time the base actually got "their guy" on the ticket?  I can't remember it.  Even Reagan wasn't really a one of them.  He increased the size of gov't.

Christie was going to be It.  He might still be It, if this doesn't stick hard enough.  The GOP likes to forgive their sins, remember!

          •  Christie was going to be it (3+ / 0-)

as much as I'm gonna be it. And even if I'm dead wrong about that, his Being IT is a couple years out yet.

This is "A Big Story" that's had a lot of hyperbolic over-the-top applied to it. I can't speak for all the other "complainers" or those who were "annoyed" by all this. I'm pretty sure the worst I applied to it was "it really isn't national yet other than 'Christie wants to be POTUS two years from now'". That is, until someone pointed out the transportation angle (as in, BullyMan stopped commerce, in addition to hampering a literal life and death situation).

So OK, yes, those things come together to make him Very Bad, and therefore A Big Electoral Story With National Implications. Yes, let's talk about it on this Partisan Site, by all means! But should it be viral to the point of pushing everything else out of discussion range? No. And saying so is not the same thing as saying "It's Not Important", nor is it saying the same thing as "We Shouldn't Talk About It".

Furthermore, the point about "other news being pushed off" whatever page is a valid one, if you have ever, at any time in your partisan life, endorsed the concept of The Friday News Dump. Apparently, those aren't limited to Fridays anymore, folks. And "Other News" worth talking about is typically spelled out by the early news wrapups around here. So imagine my surprise when I couldn't find one for Thursday. Why was apparent immediately, of course. So I got a little annoyed with it early on, cuz one of the things I actually came here looking for was some different POV on this:

I still can't find out if Morning Joe actually talked about this. My guess is that Christie pre-empted it. Imagine that! That conversation (assuming it had taken place) would have had a diary, and it would have been a doozy, just because it would have the added bonus of mocking Joe and Mika in it, which never fails to provide a great contrast to whatever is being spun, why and how. Anytime they open their mouths, just about, they're talking shit about our President. You know, the guy that's in charge right now...?

Now before you call that a completely vacuous example, the only reason I'm actually using it is because it had a tweet to go with it. It isn't even close to being the only thing I normally would have expected to find here yesterday. Trashing those two has become somewhat of an art form--it's just way more fun to read about it here!

In the end, I had to go do a little more work than usual looking up Other News, as there was, in fact, a great deal of it, which I hope all of you have taken the time to look up yourselves. And big fucking whoop for me, you say? Waahmbulance! Don't be silly--I say this stuff at all because I'm spoiled. I usually find just about anything worthy of discussion at all in one place--right here on this here blogsite.

THAT is why I come here. The "partisan" stuff is a bonus to me. So sue me and fucking burn my membership card, kos! If I have one! Why would any of this justify the attitude of "if you don't like it, diary on Your Own Pet Subject If You're So Concerned"? I come here to read and comment on other writers and keep up with the news, unfettered by the usual mass media bullshit. We're not all diarists out here.

This all started with "what the Republicans did to language".

    •  Most important 2016-related story. (0+ / 0-)

So we're going to spend at least a week of 2014 talking about how this affects an election that is TWO YEARS AND TEN MONTHS AWAY??

    •  So is the plan to keep it on the front page and (2+ / 0-)

rec list until the 2016 elections? It's like some of the more tiny brained sportscasters who show 352 replays of the same catch after the game is over. One has two choices, leave/tuneout/turn the tv off or sit, hopelessly and haplessly hoping that one of them will at some point say someting new, informative and intelligent.

I guess the point is whether it is 18, 80, or 800 diaries on the same topic with substantially the same information and viewpoint, the effect on Christie's career by yet another repetition becomes negligible.
