  •  The memory of Aitazaz is poorly served.... (4+ / 0-)

....by connecting his memory with the JerseyBoyz scandal.

I was going along feeling amazed at the young man's act of bravery and then ((((BUZZKILL ALERT BUZKILL ALERT)))) the discussion brings in the infamy of some small-state partisan morons!

I wish your diary just stuck to Aitazaz....

    •  I take your point. (4+ / 0-)

Ian's right in the sense that the moral contrast between Aitazaz and Christie's henchmen is great.  But I think that's part of the problem.  The gulf between the two is so vast that it kind of demeans Aitazaz to mention him in the same paragraph as Bridget Kelly.

This young man gave his life to save his classmates.  He deserves to be separated completely from the low-life thugs of the Christie administration.

    •  I don't agree. I think the contrast is the point. (7+ / 0-)

A 14-year-old boy who is part of a religion, culture and nation that so many people in the United States denigrate, acted heroically and without concern for himself to save others.
Meanwhile, an adult, a product of American culture and education acts for himself and about himself and with no regard for anyone else.
It helps us to see that the values and character that we hold in highest regard can be found all over the world.

While Democrats work to get more people to vote, Republicans work to ensure those votes won't count.

....that the outright sleaziness of the scandal just smears filth on Aitazaz's story just by being discussed together.

Essentially, I find Aitzaz's story compelling enough on it's own without making use of it to make a point about how bad the JerzeyBoys were.

Anyway, I didn't say you should change it or re-write the diary, merely that I WISH it was presented differently, and I certainly stand by my recommendation, I appreciate learning about the story.

I also think the story has value as the core of a "stop hatin' on Pakistan" diary, which we could probably use, since so many Americans and Pakistanis have a general antipathy for each other's countries, which is a poor place to be if one's goals include some sort of international diplomacy based on the DBAD rule....

      •  How very true, Tamar! (0+ / 0-)

           I took note of that, immediately . . .
The many martyrs who sacrifice their lives for Allah and Islam
are every bit as heroic to their own people!
To me they are far superior to the porcine Christie and his vile cutthroats!
