Students in Japan do the janitorial work of their schools but they also control the school budget. It is the Japanese Student Council that buys the equipment and everything else at the school.

Is Kingston willing to do that?

    •  VERY interesting! (0+ / 0-)

Fight them to the end, until the children of the poor eat better than the dogs of the rich.

      •  Very different situation too. (0+ / 0-)

A lot of the student council seem destined to go on to big things, including future politicians and administrators. The obsession with excelling there is very dangerous, think SAT prep is stressful, consider some of these kids will be going to cram schools for years to have a slim chance of getting into a top university, and that includes the already top students.

But that's hardly unique to Japan, it's just more obvious thanks to the cultural factors like family honour that make performing hard so important to people.

Still that said HJ has an interesting idea, if you're going to push them to do the staff's work at the school they deserve more input into the way it's run.
