  •  I'm doing high carb, high fiber (6+ / 0-)

Because I turned sixty, you know. I don't even have a scale but I was in a second hand store in early December and they had a scale. Pounds and ounces didn't work, but kilograms did. I was 79K, which put me at a BMI of 25 just on the cusp of overweight. Regardless, my belly said I was overweight.

Anyway, I try to go for 50 grams of fiber each day. I've already been a vegetarian for more than twenty years, so no problem not eating meat. I've been doing a lot of legumes and whole grains. With plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

There's a nice app I use CRON-O-Meter to keep track of everything. It's a great site and you can also download an app to run on your computer.

Yesterday, I made a simple loaf of whole wheat bread. Just flour, water, salt and yeast. I ran the numbers in the app, then ran numbers for if  I had made it with refined all-purpose flour, then ran numbers for a supermarket-type 100% whole wheat bread that has a lot of additives. And then I ran the numbers for a McDonald's hamburger bun. It clearly illustrates the difficulty of achieving a reasonable satiety with modern industrial food but without, at the same time, overdoing calories.

Bread type, 1 oz. Fiber, grams Calories
    whole wheat, homemade 2 53.5
    white, homemade 0.5 66.7
    Oroweat 100% Whole Wheat 1.6 71.6
    McDonalds Hamburger Bun 0.6 87.3
    Good luck, everybody!
